A state-of-the-art logistics warehouse for storing medical supplies

The project carried out for Prologis in Piacenza is a logistics warehouse of 42,750 sqm, intended for Medline, a company dedicated to the production and distribution of medical-surgical supplies.

To guarantee high performance in terms of quality and functionality, various solutions have been adopted, such as the use, on the entire internal surface of the warehouse, of an industrial flooring of the “jointless” type, i.e. without contraction joints, with sinusoidal type joints to ensure a high level of distribution flexibility.

Also from a thermal point of view, the building was conceived and built with a particularly high-performance envelope. Concrete panels with thermal break, high-performance sandwich façades and significant insulation on the roof make it possible to achieve extremely low levels of transmission, thus minimizing plant engineering requirements and increasing the sustainability of the envelope. As regards the system installed on the roof of the warehouse, strictly necessary given the type of storage, is an air/air system with rooftop (which could also be used for controlled air exchange) and ceiling air distribution ducts with nozzles. This type of plant combines great efficiency while safeguarding maximum flexibility in the storage areas.

The building also has and added value on the market thanks to the LEED Silver certification, which guarantees a design aimed at reducing the environmental impact and execution of the works based on the use of highly sustainable solutions such as the installation of a white waterproofing membrane to minimize the heat island effect, the use of flow limiters for sanitary equipment to reduce and account for water consumption and the reuse or recycle of more than 75% of total construction waste.
